Թ celebrates opening of new $1.8M Dental Clinic

Թ unveiled the $1.8 million state-of-the-art Dental Clinic expansion today, Nov. 17. The event celebrated the completion of the enhanced classroom and lab space, which will prepare more oral healthcare professionals for work as dental assistants and dental hygienists.

“This is an exciting day for Թ and the future of dental health education,” said Dr. Paul Carlsen, president of Թ. “We are grateful to our donors for making this opportunity possible for Թ students who will have an impact on serving the future needs of our communities.”

In addition to senior officials from Թ and the Թ Foundation, those in attendance included executives from Heartland Dental, elected officials from the Manitowoc and Sheboygan area, community dentistry partners, and Թ employees, including faculty, and students.

This new learning environment fills a significant gap between the demand for and supply of oral healthcare professionals across the lakeshore area and beyond. To help narrow that gap, Թ expanded its training capacity thanks to funding provided by the state and private donors. Top donors for the project included the West Foundation with a gift of $150,000 and Heartland Dental with a gift of $135,000. This fall, Թ is training more Dental Assisting students and preparing to launch a new Dental Hygiene program.

Թ’s previous lab was demolished to make room for the new lab that includes workstations, advanced equipment, and supplies. This investment will allow students to experience a hands-on, real-world learning environment as they focus on skill development and patient care.
